Another Christmas has passed. I had a nice relaxing time at home with my parents and Grandma. We did the usualy holiday things: eat, play games, open presents, and go to church. Santa was very good to all of us!

Goalies Gone Wild

Okay, so it wasn’t quite Girls Gone Wild, but I got to see some awesome hockey last night. A friend and I went to see the Minnesota Wild take on the Dallas Stars. The game started sort of slow, but the thrid period was exciting when the Wild came from behind to win 2-1. It was the first NHL game I have ever seen live, and it did not dissapoint. Overall, however, I think I enjoy college hockey more because the crowd seems to be more energetic. From my experience, everyone participates more at college games.

Also, I took my new camera to the game and snaped some photos. I tried a few different settings, but I am still learning all the modes and settings. The white balance is off on some of the photos, but I think in general a glaring white sheet of ice is a difficult background for photography.

Knight Notes has relocated! Or at least it will soon…

Well I’ve made the switch to WordPress on my own website, rather than blogging at blogger.com. I’m going to try to import my old blog entries and then I’ll set up the old page to point here. Still a few things to figure out, but learning is fun!

Fashizzle, Fashazzle it’s a Holidazzle

It was bitter cold with a raw wind on Friday night, but Alison and I made it downtown to see the Holidazzle parade. Sponsored by Target, they were handing out free disposable cameras to everybody. I took a few shots with my new camera, but photgraphing moving lights in the dark is not easy. It didn’t help that I was so cold it was hard to keep still. Here’s a picture of the lead float that was blurry so I played around and tried a mozaic effect.

New Camera

Well, I upgraded my digital camera. My old one was a FujiFilm DX-2700 which I got as a high school graduation gift, six years ago. It was really nice back in the day, but the lag time after every picture along with a lack of optical zoom made me decide an upgrade was long overdue. So I researched a camera that would fit my needs of at least 3x optical zoom and quick point-and-shoot for under 300 bucks. I’m also starting to take an increased interest in photography so I wanted a camera that would let me configure some settings manually, but nothing so advanced it would be hard to use. In general, I keep my pictures in digital format and only print them out occasionally, so the megapixel count wasn’t that important. I narrowed it down between the Olympus SP-310 and the Canon A610. I think both of these models are probably great cameras, but in the end I decided to go with the Canon. Its price was tough to beat and all the sample pictures I viewed looked great. The Olympus had some more advanced features like the RAW image format, but the images I saw from it looked oversharpened. Plus the floor model I tried to use was broken so this probably had an impact on my decision.

I plan to take my first batch of pictures over the weekend. Alison is visiting and compared to most days, I may actually do something worth remembering. Here’s one of the first pictures I took with the new camera. I think it is appropriate because it’s an image of my old camera.
